Cold Brew Diaries: Go Behind-the-Scenes with Team Trade

Cold Brew Diaries: Go Behind-the-Scenes with Team Trade

We put a lot of work into cold brew so you don't have to!
by Team Trade | May 22, 2019

It all started with thoughts of warm, sunny days, and a dream: to provide Trade customers with the tips, tricks, and tools to make the best cold brew coffee all summer long. With our Trade Cold Brew Bags and personalized cold brew subscriptions, we’ve made it easier than ever to sip and chill in the comfort of your own home.

While the process that goes into making cold brew might be simple, getting there wasn’t exactly easy. Over the course of a few months, Team Trade QC’d a variety of roasts and tested all cold brew methods (from the oft-misunderstood ESPRO growler to the mighty Mizudashi Cold Brew Pot) to get it just right. We even assigned homework!

Cold brew is something of a coffee paradox: it is one of the easiest ways to make coffee, but cleanup has always been a total mess.

With all these methods, one might ask: why Cold Brew Bags? Whether you’ve learned this the easy way or the hard way, cold brew is something of a coffee paradox: it is one of the easiest ways to make coffee, but cleanup has always been a total mess. We recognized that this was a big barrier for customers making cold brew at home. Bags are simple to use, easy to toss or commercially compost, and effortlessly consistent.

We tested a wide range of filter materials, shapes, and sizes before agreeing on our bags. Unlike many alternatives, the product we offer is made from top-quality filter material in the United Kingdom, meeting internationally established food safety standards. The barrier material is uniquely balanced to allow for a lot of flavor to infuse without creating an excessively “muddy” cup, within a reasonable 12 to 18 hour timeframe. Finally, we really appreciate that our plastic-free bags are made from corn-based fiber, which is commercially compostable.

But the best brew method is nothing without the best coffees. So, we;ve got you covered there too!
