Understanding roast levels

Roast level affects both flavor and body. Here's what to expect from each.

Light

Best for: those that prize delicate flavors and a tea-like feel above intensity.

Light-Medium

Best for: those that enjoy juicy acidity and gently caramelized sugars.

Medium

Best for: those that enjoy balance and classic flavors like cocoa and nuts.

Medium-Dark

Best for: those looking for classic coffee flavors with a kiss of roast.

Dark

Best for: those that love intense, smoky flavor and a full body above all else.

Trade Tip

Roasters don’t always agree on roast level — one roaster’s dark might look the same as another’s medium. We taste and assign every coffee our own roast level, so your matches stay consistent no matter who roasted them.

    New name but classic flavor

I really appreciate the roasters that have a specific Chemex grind and Perc reliability does. This might have a different name but it is a coffee with good complexity and a lot of flavor notes that I have come to appreciate. I like it when it comes around in the rotation again.

Smooth but as strong as we like it

It said espresso on the bag but it is a coffee that serves both espresso and smooth/strong drip taste and enjoyment. Definitely worth the time to explore

    Smooth, wonderful, coffee

Although not a true dark coffee, Old Skool has a wonderful, deep flavor.

We buy whole beans and grind them with 3 pulses of 4 second duration. Need 3-1/2 tablespoons of whole beans to a cup in order to fully enjoy.

    Not a dark roast

This is defintely a lighter blend. If you are looking for dark roast don’t order this one. Otherwise the taste is good.
