Roaster’s Notes
The Gatare washing station lies between Lake Kivu and the Nyungwe Forest National Park in the Nyamasheke district of Western Rwanda. Sitting at an elevation of 1,765 meters above sea level, this washing station was one of the first to process fully-washed specialty coffee when it was founded in 2003. Over 2,000 farmers from the surrounding area sell their cherry to this washing station where it is de-pulped, fermented for 24 hours and dried on raised beds.
