Roaster’s Notes
The Tekangu Farmer’s Cooperative Society was formed in 2005 when the factories of the South Kirimukuyu FCS joined up with the Tegu FCS. This particular lot hails from the Karagoto Factory, located about 160 km from Nairobi, high in the foothills of Mt. Kenya in the Aberdare range. Each contributing producer has an average of 250 trees each on very small farms; the average farm size is only half an acre. The small size of these lots make the ability for farmers to come together in Farmer’s Cooperative Societies even more valuable, as the FCS provides services that would otherwise be difficult to obtain on an individual level such as agronomic advice, technical assistance, and marketing. The product of the hard work and collaboration within the Tekangu FCS is a cup that is incredibly vivid and complex: mouth-watering berries and citrus notes are balanced by sweet honeysuckle-like florals and a buttery body.
