Understanding roast levels

Roast level affects both flavor and body. Here's what to expect from each.

Light

Best for: those that prize delicate flavors and a tea-like feel above intensity.

Light-Medium

Best for: those that enjoy juicy acidity and gently caramelized sugars.

Medium

Best for: those that enjoy balance and classic flavors like cocoa and nuts.

Medium-Dark

Best for: those looking for classic coffee flavors with a kiss of roast.

Dark

Best for: those that love intense, smoky flavor and a full body above all else.

Trade Tip

Roasters don’t always agree on roast level — one roaster’s dark might look the same as another’s medium. We taste and assign every coffee our own roast level, so your matches stay consistent no matter who roasted them.

    DELICIOUS

This blend has become my go-to for a daily oat milk latte. It was an unexpected standout: smooth, well-balanced, and remarkably low in bitterness, with enough character to come through milk without ever feeling overpowering. It’s the kind of coffee that’s so satisfying I regularly find myself making a second latte a couple of times a week. I’ve reordered it multiple times now, and after trying several other Irving Farm blends and roasts, this one is easily my favorite. I really hope Trade continues to carry it.

    Love

For one of the first times, I can honestly say that I understand what it means when it says hint of chocolate and peanut. Really enjoyed

    Immediate pleasure

It this were beer, I’d say it was a great session drinker. Chocolate/nut sweetness, stable body

enough shape to avoid boredom, no harsh edges or heaviness overload. No gimmicks. A coffee I genuinely want to keep drinking

    Wow - a nice coffee

Been with Trade for a few month and this one caught my attention. I like a light to medium roast. This one I sat with for a while and just really enjoyed it,

Exactly What it Claims: Milk Chocolate, Peanut, and Toffee

Took me a few tries to dial-in. Once I reached the equilibrium, I was able to pull all three notes. Milk chocolate & peanutty on the first bite then toffee at the end.

I did not give a five stars because of my personal bias for this combination of notes. It is becoming harder to satisfy myself these days.
