Understanding roast levels

Roast level affects both flavor and body. Here's what to expect from each.

Light

Best for: those that prize delicate flavors and a tea-like feel above intensity.

Light-Medium

Best for: those that enjoy juicy acidity and gently caramelized sugars.

Medium

Best for: those that enjoy caramelized sugars and a smooth cup.

Medium-Dark

Best for: those looking for classic coffee flavors with a kiss of roast.

Dark

Best for: those that love intense, smoky flavor and a full body above all else.

Trade Tip

Roasters don’t always agree on roast level — one roaster’s dark might look the same as another’s medium. We taste and assign every coffee our own roast level, so your matches stay consistent no matter who roasted them.

    Smooth and great for breakfast

This is a non-oily bean, it's super smooth and bright. Exactly the type of coffee I enjoy in the morning

    Great coffee

I am enjoying this brew very much. I use a chemex and have the ratio right now around 475g water to 32g coffee ground with a burr mill grinder just before brewing. Brew temp at 202 degrees F. It's a nice coffee-- fairly light but has a full coffee taste. I would like more fruity notes, but I am not complaining.

    Enjoyable, but not overly uniform

A little darker roast than what would be desired, but overall a good cup with fun notes expected from Ethiopia

    Nice and smooth

This is a decent daily drinker that I’d order again. I prefer their #33 that is more fruity forward with a blueberry note.
