Understanding roast levels

Roast level affects both flavor and body. Here's what to expect from each.

Light

Best for: those that prize delicate flavors and a tea-like feel above intensity.

Light-Medium

Best for: those that enjoy juicy acidity and gently caramelized sugars.

Medium

Best for: those that enjoy balance and classic flavors like cocoa and nuts.

Medium-Dark

Best for: those looking for classic coffee flavors with a kiss of roast.

Dark

Best for: those that love intense, smoky flavor and a full body above all else.

Trade Tip

Roasters don’t always agree on roast level — one roaster’s dark might look the same as another’s medium. We taste and assign every coffee our own roast level, so your matches stay consistent no matter who roasted them.

    Grapefruit indeed!

This coffee is delicious when made using the "Japanese method", which is making an iced coffee by flash chilling it with a hot pour over into a carafe with ice. But either hot or iced, it's a nice citrusy coffee with outstanding grapefruit notes. If you like grapefruit, you'll love this one.

    A delightful Kenya

Really enjoying this coffee. Nice fruitiness and a good roast level IMO for this bean. Also tried it blended with some Costa Rica La Minita to round it out a bit and tone down the acidity. Would buy again.

    So good!

Incredible, really delivers on the grapefruit tasting note, and in a really good way. I like fruity coffees, and this really delivers.

    Exceptional, fruit bomb

Tasted after two weeks and was decent, but nothing special. Decided to rest for another 2 weeks and it really opened up. Drinking at around 5 weeks now and getting exceptional cups, very juicy but solid body to balance. Will be getting more soon!
