Understanding roast levels

Roast level affects both flavor and body. Here's what to expect from each.

Light

Best for: those that prize delicate flavors and a tea-like feel above intensity.

Light-Medium

Best for: those that enjoy juicy acidity and gently caramelized sugars.

Medium

Best for: those that enjoy balance and classic flavors like cocoa and nuts.

Medium-Dark

Best for: those looking for classic coffee flavors with a kiss of roast.

Dark

Best for: those that love intense, smoky flavor and a full body above all else.

Trade Tip

Roasters don’t always agree on roast level — one roaster’s dark might look the same as another’s medium. We taste and assign every coffee our own roast level, so your matches stay consistent no matter who roasted them.

    Great roast from Nashville

I’m not perfect at describing coffee, but this smells amazing, is roasted perfectly and makes one of the better chemex brews I’ve had from trade. I have whole beans and grind at home to brew making a chemex every day. This smells amazing and tastes superb with not bitter or sour tastes. For details see the bag, my palate isn’t expert level.

Rita AB Coffee is absolutely delicious!

The flavor profile is smooth, balanced, and incredibly enjoyable, with bright, fruity notes complemented by a subtle sweetness and a rich, clean finish. There’s a lovely complexity to the cup without it tasting overwhelming or bitter.

Definitely a coffee I would recommend to anyone who enjoys flavorful, specialty coffee. I’ll happily be coming back for more!
