Understanding roast levels

Roast level affects both flavor and body. Here's what to expect from each.

Light

Best for: those that prize delicate flavors and a tea-like feel above intensity.

Light-Medium

Best for: those that enjoy juicy acidity and gently caramelized sugars.

Medium

Best for: those that enjoy caramelized sugars and a smooth cup.

Medium-Dark

Best for: those looking for classic coffee flavors with a kiss of roast.

Dark

Best for: those that love intense, smoky flavor and a full body above all else.

Trade Tip

Roasters don’t always agree on roast level — one roaster’s dark might look the same as another’s medium. We taste and assign every coffee our own roast level, so your matches stay consistent no matter who roasted them.

    Flavor bomb

This Mexico Veracruz from Queen City Coffee was an absolute flavor bomb! Right from the first sip, I got a ton of sweet caramel followed by some really nice peach notes. The caramel gave it a rich sweetness while the peach added a nice fruity kick. Everything was really well balanced, smooth, and packed with flavor. I drink my coffee black, and this one had plenty of natural sweetness. I really enjoyed this one and would definitely recommend it if you like a sweeter, fruit-forward coffee. Queen City Coffee did a great job with this one!
