The Negroni Meets its Match With Coffee and Cognac

The Negroni Meets its Match With Coffee and Cognac

The classic cocktail, with cold brew and a French twist.

You know the Negroni, but let us introduce you to its even fancier, French cousin: The Cognac and Coffee Negroni. Brought to us by NYC-based Cocktail Enthusiast and Amateur Home Bartender Alex Miller, this twist on a stiff classic incorporates 18-hour cold brew for a deeper, richer flavor.

"I have a bunch of oversized rocks glasses that can hold a massive capacity of drink, so if I were to fill it entirely with booze it would be one and done," Alex tells us. "Since a double old fashioned glass can hold 11 oz why not make up a little bit of the difference with some really exceptional coffee?"

  • 3 oz coarse ground coffee
  • 32 oz water
  • 1 oz cognac
  • 1 oz red vermouth
  • 1 oz Campari (we used Campari Cask Tales for a nice oakiness)
  • 1 orange, sliced

  1. Fill a Trade Cold Brew Bag with coffee
  2. Let sit in water for up to 18 hours
  3. Pour 2 oz cold brew in a large rocks glass
  4. Combine with remaining ingredients
  5. Mix ingredients until cohesive
  6. Add fresh orange slice to garnish
