For Trade’s Head of Data Science, Matt, finding coffees you’ll love is all in a day's work. Now, he’s letting you in on some of his personal favorites in this week’s Staff Picks.
“Before I joined Trade, I enjoyed drinking coffee, but didn’t know how to describe what I was tasting. Having spent the past two years surrounded by coffee pros, I’ve learned a thing or two. Now, I know that I like light-medium roasted coffee with mild fruit notes, such as citrus or stone fruit. I also prefer clean, tea-like coffees with floral notes. Here are some of my favorites coffees — I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!”
"Kuma’s Sun Bear is, bar none, my absolute favorite coffee on Trade right now. When the bag smells this good as you first open it, you know it's going to be good. If I had to pick one word to describe this coffee, it would be 'juicy'. Though it’s labeled as good for cold brew (and it is), I highly recommend it as a pour over."
"This Santa Barbara roaster makes some really fun coffees. I recently received Zip Zinger that I turned it into cold brew, and am glad I did. It is smooth and chocolaty, and those extra hints of fruit create a really balanced brew."
"Sparrows' Colombia Cauca is the perfect 'everyday' coffee that I want to wake up to on a typical Tuesday morning. It has all the chocolate and nutty flavors of a classic Colombian coffee, with that added touch of acidity and cherry. It’s a great way to start the day."
"If my coffee picks were solely based on bag design, Huckleberry would easily crack the top five. Not coincidentally, they also roast some of my favorite coffees. I love this Ethiopian, but there is no way I could describe it better than Huckleberry themselves do: 'It’s coffee, but we’re tasting pink lemonade, hibiscus florals, and sweet fruit candy in our cups.' How could you not want to try after reading that?"

"Broadsheet is one of Trade’s newest roasters. When I brewed their Yabitu Koba a few weeks ago, I was blown away. Similar to my Huckleberry pick, this coffee is subtle and delicate, yet packed with fresh flavors. Every cup feels like a treat, because I tasted something different each time."
